Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

How do I prove I'm my dad's daughter?

My dad just recently passed away. How do I prove that I'm his daughter (next-of-kin). Although we're U.S. citizens, I wasn't born here, so I don't have an U.S. birth certificate. Will Social Security have that info.?

Thanks, Angela

If an autopsy was performed, there may be some of his DNA on file with the coroner's office. The real answer to your question depends on what it is you wish to achieve, and whether anyone opposes you.

If you have a birth certificate from where you were born, you can use that. There are lots of ways to numerous to mention. Consult a lawyer to help you do so in the easiest way possible given your circumstances.

I am assuming there are some assets of your deceased father's estate you are interested in obtaining title to. It sounds like you will need to get a court order establishing a parental relationship.
