Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
Hi. Could someone tell me is it possible to get records of a will? My aunt died in California in March 2011, and initially we were told there was no will, but a few weeks ago were told that there had been a will and all the money had dispersed. We have no interest in money but would just like some facts as we live in the UK as it has been very difficult getting any clear facts from my aunt's partner. We also would like to know what happened to my aunt's ashes - we know that she was cremated and she wished for there to be no funeral for her. We assume that her partner has her ashes but is there any way to check this, as we are not able to contact her partner? Thanks

If the estate was probated, you can get a copy of it at the county courthouse (county where she resided at date of death.) It should be lodged even if no probate, but this does not always occur. I don't know of any way you can find out about the disposition of ashes if the partner will not communicate with you.
