Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Rights of an daughter

My father passed away about 4 yrs ago. Nobody in my family notified me. If I was named in a will what would I do at this point? If I wasn't named but I know our house (which may have been in my mothers name) was sold for aprox 1mil just after he died (from what I was told), do I have any rights as his only child? Thank you.

You can search the probate records of the county he lived in when he passed away to see if anything was filed--if so, you were probably entitled to notice.

However, if he left his property to your mother, and outside of probate (joint tenancy, trust, etc.), you would not have to be notified. Trusts do have stricter notification requirements now, but these came into effect in 1998.
