Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

if my sister adopted my other sisters kids when she lost custody does that make her kids the immediate next of kin when she dies? even if the adoption was fraud because she gave the kids back to the mom and the monthly checks too? can that be changed?

If the adoption of the children was legal at the time, then the adopted children are the heirs of the adopted mother, and have no inheritance rights from the natural birth mother. As to the fraud claim, that is best investigated by the district attorney of your county.
