Some (but not all) California courts have web sites that have probate case information. Try the web site for the county where they died, or go to the courthouse yourself.

Also ask the kid who is the most friendly to you or most reasonable. Point out the estate attorney will not and can not distribute all the funds from the estate until he has tried to find all possible heirs. there might also be a claim for fraud, the loner the estate remains open the more attorney fees and costs go up.go up. If you are not notified about what is occurring in the case, then none of the decisions may be final as to you and they wil probably have to pay you more money.

If the person or persons who told you there is an attorney looking for you can't help, you should check the Court records in the County where your sister and her husband lived to see if a probate has been opened for the husband. In most counties you can probably do on line through the Court's web site. If an attorney is looking for you, that could mean you were left something in the will or, at a minimum are entitled to legal notice. You can also simply contact the children with your current address.
