Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My sister lives in Virginia. My dad lives in Texas. I live in California. My sister is going abroad for 2 years and she would like to give Power of Attorney to my dad and me. What kind of a form does she have to fill out?

Office Depot and Staples have "boilerplate" power of attorney forms. They are inexpensive and easy to work with.

If your sister needs something more sophisticated, she should consult an attorney.

I don't know the law in Virginia since I am licensed in California. I suggest that using a form is not a good idea. There are, in California, Durable Powers and Non-Durable Powers as well as a general power of attorney and specific or special power of attorney. Where are your sister's assets? If in California, and if a general power is needed and a durable power is desired, you might find that "FORM" available. This should be discussed with your sister's local attorney in Virginia, assuming her assets are also within that State.
