Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
My son is recieving a settlement for $7500. I was told by the insurance company that a minor's compromise will have to be done to protect his rights. How long does that process usually take?

A minor's compromise is done to protect the insurance company from your son suing once he is 18 claiming that his guardian misspent the money and the insurance company should have know that would occur so they are liable. It must be approved by the Court but is put on a fast track hearing schedule so should take about a month once submitted to the court, but you need to check with the court that will hear the matter as to how their own calendar process is.
