Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My son turned 18 last week. He has a CUTMA account with the father as the custodian (until age 18). The father won't acknowledge our requests to close the accounts and therefore release the money to my son. His college tuition is due next month. What legal papers does he have to file to compel the father to close the account?

Two thoughts: First, have you gone to the bank with a birth certificate or passport showing DOB and asking for the money? If that won't work, then you will probably have to file a Petition with the Probate Court. I would make the Petition Ex Parte, meaning on shortened time rather than a regularly scheduled Petition which can take 6-10 weeks to be heard.
