Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

I haven't seen or spoken to my father in over 10 years. I have just learned that he past away in Feb 2010. He had no other children and the last time I spoke with him he told me "I'm going to leave everything to you when I go." My grandmother (his mother) didn't like the fact that I was his son and I'm not white so she doesn't claim me and doesn't see me as part of the family. I am wondering how would I find out if i was left anything from my father.

We usually start by looking in the probate Court records to see a probate has been filed and if not we check the real estate records to see if he owned property. If that doesn't turn anything up then we would direct our attention at grandmother. Call me if you want to discuss your case. I do probate work throughout California. -John

You are going to have to find out whether there was a will, a trust, both, or nothing at all. You would then need to know what property was in his name, and then consult with a probate attorney.
