Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California
I haven't seen or spoken to my father in over 10 years. I have just learned that he past away in Feb 2010. He had no other children and the last time I spoke with him he told me "I'm going to leave everything to you when I go." My grandmother (his mother) didn't like the fact that I was his son and I'm not white so she doesn't claim me and doesn't see me as part of the family. I am wondering how would I find out if i was left anything from my father.

We usually start by looking in the probate Court records to see a probate has been filed and if not we check the real estate records to see if he owned property. You are going to have to find out whether there was a will, a trust, both, or nothing at all. You would then need to know what property was in his name, and then consult with a probate attorney.
