Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

spousal rights

he is 78, in good health,never married so no children. His nieces,nephews want us to live together. They think he has alot of money they don't want done out of. I don't want to be 70 homeless and penniless. His family live to be 100 so I'm hoping for 20 good years with this man. I own my home in Florida where my parents reside. What are my rights as common law spouse and as Mrs? One niece has already been in his home without his knowlege shredding banking statements and canceled checks. I'm afraid for him. Help me protect both of us. thanks
