Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Step Children

My step-mother passed away recently. My father died a couple years before her. They owned a house together that they bought with money my father inherited when his mother passed away. The house was in both their names. My step-mother has two sons from a previous marriage. What happens to the house now? Do I have any claim to half the house?

Re: Step Children

I would have to know more before answering--how is/was the title to the house held, and were there any wills/trusts between them? You should consult an attorney to answer these questions, and if you're not sure of the answers, the attorney can help you investigate.

Re: Step Children

It depends. It depends on how your father and step mother held title to the property. It also depends on whether they created any estate plan. If you contact our office, we would be happy to help you investigate these matters and help answer your questions.
