This question veers in the direction of psychology, rather than purely legal issues. Does teh trust consist of assets accumulated mostly by your husband before you were married? What sort of relationship do you have with your step-children? Do you have children? What are your intentions for the remainder of the trust when you die? Legally, is part of the trust irrevocable upon the death of the first spouse? Are you a trustee of the trust? If you participated in the preparation of this trust with your husband, then the attorney who set it up should have explained some of these things to you. If you are looking for confidential and independant advice, you should meet with an attorney and have him review the specific document and discuss these family issues with you without your husband being present.
