Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

Do trusts have to go through Probate in Calif.

I have an aunt who passed away. She had been in a nursing home for many years. Some of her assets were in blocked trust accounts. Some were in one name trusts, others two or more. Do these accounts have to go through probate? Also if they are in trust accounts can they be contested?
