How long does an executor of a trust have before he must give the heirs their portion of what was left to them?

It depends on the trust instrument and the work involved in the estate adminstration. Generally, a trustee has 60 days after the trust becomes irrevocable to give beneficiaries notice and then must usually wait an additional 120 days after the notice is sent to make sure there are no challenges to the trust. After that, the trustee must follow the rules of the trust for distributions. Assuming all contingencies to distribution have been satisfied, the trustee should act reasonably in making distributions.
