Re: unclaimed money
The state Controller's office has a website to check for unclaimed property at www.sco.ca.gov. Also, check with the Los Angeles County Treasurer's office--I don't have the number, but they're on Temple Street in downtown Los Angeles--they also take unclaimed property in L.A. County probate estates.

Go to the state controllers offic web site for California, http://www.sco.ca.gov/ , and click on unclaimed property.
That would be a start.
