Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in California

My wife was supposed to be left her aunt's home in California, but while her aunt was diagnosed with dementia and deemed by the court unable to make financial decisions, the home was sold by the trust officer. Her aunt never recovered. My wife was in the living will trust to inherit the house and a specific amount of money. Will she inherit what the house sold for, since her aunt wanted her to benefit from the house, and the set amount?

Probably not since the home was not part of her estate when she passed away, but it still depends on how the trust was written. Any idea why the home was sold by the trust officer when it was? There may be some issues with the sale of the property that can be explored.
