Wills and legal rights of Grandchildren

Are Grandchildren entitled to any benefits for an Estate if they are not mentioned in the Will?

The grandchildren would only take under a will if the named beneficiaries predecease the testator and they are next in line to inherit. Even then they may not get anything if, e.g., the testator leaves the residue to, e.g., the Red Cross or some other entity that is in fact going to be around.
