You can do it on your own. However, it is a minefield of potential problems when you try to do it on your own.
You may save money now but it is possible that the people to whom you want to leave your property may pay a lot more after you are gone.
I recommend that you find an attorney in your area to prepare your estate plan.

Yes, if you want your relatives to remember you as that cheap SOB who screwed up his will and made them spend thousands of dollars on lawyers to attempt to straighten things out.

Absolutely. Read "Create Your Legacy & Save the American Middle Class" Tells you everything you need to know and do, and why, in plain English. You can find the book (about 100 pages) at www.yourlivinglegacy.info. Unlike other books on the subject it talks not in legalese but in language we all can understand. It is the result of the 200 + seminars I've given on the topic to middle class (not wealthy) people.
