An adequacy hearing is ordered by the judge when he or she has concerns regarding your settlement. If you are unrepresented, the judge acts as your advocate. There may be issues such as your level of permanent disability or how much money the insurance company has agreed to pay you. Make sure you go to the next hearing to find out why the judge has set the adequacy hearing.

If you have not already done so, read through one of the Nolo Press books that is written for lay people on what the benefits are under WC so that you have a better understanding of what you might be entitled to and can ask the Judge questions. Nothing prevents you from calling the other side before the hearing to get their answers; remember, their representative may be honest but their job is to limit the payments to no more than what they consider a reasonable level.
