Medical-legal costs refers to charges by physicians for the evaluation of patients as opposed treatment, such as when the applicant's attorney sends his client to a physician in the hope of getting a higher PD rating.

A medical-legal refers to a physician who examines the injured worker. Most often, it is an Agreed Medical Evaluator, or a Panel Qualified Medical Examiner who issues a medical-legal report.
