Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

I am a contractor in CA. I want to have my son work with me, am I required to carry workers compensation?

Yeah, if you get audited and you deducted his wages as an employee, the Director of Industrial Relations can fine you. If he could be a TRUE independent contractor, then no. (I had a family donut shop owner who called me AFTER he was audited and fined and sentenced to probation because he had no Workers Comp INsurance for children and nieces working for a share of the income!)
