Cumulative Injury in Neck

I am a police officer with 25 years experience. I just discovered that I have 2 compressed disks in my neck which is causing daily discomfort. My chiropractic doctor told me that he feels that this injury is a cumulative injury which could have occurred as long as 6 months ago. He also told me that he could treat this injury without surgery. Because of my profession and years on the job, can this be a work related injury?
