Who ever told you that does not know the law. If you go via a straight route to the health care treatments or examinations, you are entitled to full salary as though you were at work. An WC injured employee can not be treated differently than a non-injured employee. Talk to the insurance carrier so that they will tell your employer what the law is; if they refuse, demand to know the legal basis, so that it can be easily shown that they are wrong.
