Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

A friend of mine retired last January but is now collecting workers' comp. I thought one had to be employed to receive workers' comp.

If the injury is from work, the employment status when benefits are drawn does not matter, except perhaps as to calculating the compensation rate. Not all injuries result in immediate disability. Some people try to tough it out and only retire once they see it is too painful to continue.
