Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

My husband was a pe teacher, and worked after school for the maintenance department at a private school. He has had numerous accidents over the last 10 years of working for them. Never filed workers comp any of the times he was hurt. He has broken fingers, broken toes, (piano fell on them), and needed a hernia operation from all the heavy lifting. He never filed workers comp, the school gave him the 500 for hospital copay. Well, since his operation 2 years ago he has been in constant pain. When he sleeps at night he constantly moans and groans. It is horrible! I feel so bad for him. He has been back and forth from the Dr. to have something done and they tell him they have to open it back up. Well after 10 years of dedicating his life to this school he doesn't have a job anymore. They brought a new principal in and she didn't give him a contract for next year. We are completely devastated by this, he has worked so hard for this school, nights, weekends, whenever they needed something they would call him. He never said no! He even did work at the homes of anyone that asked him to. Delivered furniture, painted homes on weekends for 2 months and was paid 500 total! A whole house, 2 months of work! They used him! My question is this, Can he get workers comp to pay to have these things fixed(fingers, hernia repaired) that happened at the school? Thanks,
