Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

I injured my ACL while on duty as a paramedic. While I was on a "Leave of Absence" for surgery covered under workmans comp I lost my health insurance due to missing work. I am also now unable to purchase my own health insurance do to the injury to my ACL. Is workmans comp required in any way to provide me with health insurance? I am currently unable to go to the dentist, optometrist or even to my family doctor for a regular check up because I have no insurance which is obviously a direct result of my workmans comp injury, and workmans comp is telling me they have no responsibility for this whatsoever.
