Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

Job retraining problems

I am currently in a school for job rehab, that my insurance company is paying for. I chose the school and the profession. Now, half way through, I am finding out that the market for my new career is over flooded with qualified people. i have been trying to get a entry level job in this field and have been told over and over again, the market is flooded.

I have researched my options, and have found something much more compatible for entry level applicants. however my rehab counseler says it's too late. The insurance company will never redo a plan. I am suprised as hell by this. Isn't the purpose of job rehab to get me back to work? I have enough money left or pretty close for the other school. I only need half to start. Hell, i'll pay the rest myself if I half to. I'm very frustrated and upset with this whole seemingly rehab b.s. I need to know whether I legally can request a new program or if im screwed. please send info, a.s.a.p. thank you.--name removed--

Re: Job retraining problems

As you are half way through the plan you need to keep your faith in the plan at this point and the profession. Unfortunately, there is nothing in rehab that guarantees a job after training is completed. This is where an attorney should have been of help in discussing with you and the counselor the job availability of the program you chose prior to its start. But that is water under the bridge now. You should work with your rehab counselor to try to get a position, this is part of rehab if you haven't used up all your benefits by the end of your program. And they will help you with this if you still have it available at the end; and based on your statements you should. Rehab counselors are very good at landing employment for rehabbed workers, even in flooded markets, and they put a ton of effort into it on behalf of the worker, much greater than any regular recruiter out there that you would ever encounter on your own. You need to put all your effort into it with the rehab counselor when you enter into this phase after training is completed. If you still have time left in your program look to see if there is some form of specialty within the field that you could concentrate on that may open up the job market more. But again, if you are half way through the program as far as training getting a whole new plan is, for the most part, an impossibility. You chose this plan, I assume, based on interest in doing this as a career. With this in mind, don't give up so easily as dedication and commitment will usually pay off. And again, your odds of landing a position are even greater since you will have the rehab counselor's help in this. Good luck!
