Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

I was laid off from my job 4 months ago. I have been collecting unemployment benefits in CA since that time, completing the certification process and looking for work. About a month ago my old boss asked me if I wanted to "help out" at a celebrity charity event. I figured I was doing the work as a volunteer since it was a charity event. No rates were discussed. About three weeks later...bingo, I receive a check in the mail for that party. I appreciate that I was being paid, but I didn't claim this on my edd claims form. I want to pay them back, but I don't want to risk losing my benefits and I don't want them to open a frauds investigation. Should I contact them or just claim it on my next week's claims form? I really want to be honest, but I don't know if coming clean will serve me well.

NOT WORKERS COMPENSATION (which is only about people hurt on the job). I would call EDD and ask how to best report this income. It may be possible to file an 'amended' edd form reflecting this income. when my clients get unemployment, they show their partial permanent disability payments when they send in their 're-certification' form every two weeks, so consider that option.
