Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

I live in AZ and own a house in CA which is a rental property. I have a property management company in CA handling the property for me. They are telling me I have to carry workers comp insurance. This does not seem right; the agency was hired by me, but I have no control over their employees and how they carry out their day to day tasks. Should they be able to require this? Can you point me to any statutes or case law to support your opinion on this? Thanks.

something seems wrong. I suggest that you contact one or two other property management companies and see if they require comp. insurance. it may be that the contactual agreement you entered with this property management company does require comp, which is in essence passing the cost of doing business to you.
