Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

How long after injury do I have before I notify employer? I told my shift mgr. approx,

4 or 5 days later. I thought maybe it was just a strain in my arm, but a month later it is still hurting and not getting any better. I was just wondering if I am still able to file work comp. as I know my insurance company is going to claim I was hurt on the job and they are not going to want to pay the claim.
