Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

My Solar company is going to hire contractors to install PV panels on residential roofs. If the contractor has worker's compensation insurance and they get hurt, am I liable or will the liability be on the contractors workers compensation insurance?

If a worker for the sub-contractor is injured, the worker collects WC benefits, but that does not prevent them from suing the homeowner and/or you if they feel someone was negligent, including not warning of some problem with the roof. WC only protects the employer, not the contractor like you. If the owner of the business himself does some of the work, that person could also sue if someone besides his employees or himself was negligent.
