surgery or settlement
Are you also allowed a cash settlement if you have surgery.

Re: surgery or settlement
Settlement options can vary. You can always settle out your case by a lump sum cash settlement. This is called a "Compromise and Release". If you settle this way, you would be giving up your right to any future medical care and should you need treatment, this will be your responsibility. If you need extensive treatment, this is not the recommended type of settlement.
You can also enter into a Stipulation with Request for Award which will leave your case open for "lifetime" medical (only to cure and relieve the effects of your injury) which may be the preferred way to go if you need a lot of medical care and treatment (i.e. further surgery, therapy, medical supplies, home care, etc). If you decide to settle by way of "Stipulation" you will receive your award in payments. These are very important decisions and you need to weigh all apsects.
