Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

I am currently TTD and on disability through my employer. The Physical Therapist said she would be surprised if I go back to my job. Am I able to go to school to prepare myself for another career? Specifically Cosmetology school. I hurt my back and am waiting for a nerve test and possibly shot for my back. Thank you
