Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

WorkComp appeals board hearing

Work comp appeal hearing set (mandatory), yet after finally contacting my attorney, he said I did not have to be there. Something does not ring true here. Can you give me any reasons he would tell me not to go? I asked him to put that in writing...Thank you.
