Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

workers comp and moving

I've been in the workers comp system for 3 1/2 years now. I just had surgery in November and recently found out I may be getting more surgery. Because of this injury, I lost my apartment and have been forced to move in with my aunt. She is now moving and I will have no one to live with. My family lives in another state. The only person I can live with lives in Las Vegas. What are my options? I can't live on the streets! This is a horrible situation.

Re: workers comp and moving

I am sorry about your situation. Nothing in the WC system requires that you live where you were residing when injured. You will have unreimburseble travel expenses if you have to attend any Board hearings. When you know where and when you are going, notify the carrier, Board, and outside law firm representing the employer, if there is one. I assume you do not have a WC attorney. The Board should have a free legal adviser to whom you can speak.

Good luck.

I am sorry about your situation. I have a few cases similar to yours and my clients ended up to move out of state because they weren't working and they could not afford living in California. Feel free to call me at 213.388.7070 for a free consultation and mail me any medical reports or any communication you had with the insurance company and I will see how I can assist you.
