Legal Question in Workers Comp in California

Workers Comp Settlement and Unemployment

On my job I injured my hands (carpul tunel). I filed a claim and continued to work full time. Since my injuries are permanent they suggested surgery which I declined, I chose to close my case after final eval., and they sent me 2 small checks. I was fired about 5 weeks ago and filed for unemployment before I was aware of the money coming from a work comp ''compromise & release'' settlement. Question is ''do I have to report this settlement to the unemployment office''? Will the work comp settlement affect my unemployment? I am able to work. Thanks in advance for your response.

Re: Workers Comp Settlement and Unemployment

It should not as the checks you receieved were not for being off work but rather for the permanent injuries to your wrists. Unemployment normally has a lien against only temporary disability benefits.
