Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Canada
Bankrupt in foreign country
I am Canadian citizen working in USA on Trade Nafta visa. In Canada I had financial difficulties and I owe some money on my credit cards and my student loan about 20000 Canadian dollars. If the collection agency from Canada finds out my location in the US can they do anything to me here?

Canadian creditors can sue you in the US, or they can sue you in Canada and probably enforce the Canadian judgment in the US. A US bankruptcy will prevent collection of these debts in the US, but may or may not preclude the Canadian creditors from trying to collect from assets or income in Canada.
