Effect of recent Bankruptcy on immigration to Canada from US

I am married to a Canadian citizen and plan to move there in the next 6 months as a landed immigrant. However, due to some bad investments I am contemplating bankruptcy proceedings. What effects will this have on my immigration to Canada?

Also, Among my debts is a couple thousand dollars owed to the IRS. I know that IRS debts are not covered in bankruptcy proceedings and I fully intend to pay my debt but will this have an added effect on my immigration plans?

A abnkruptcy should not affect your immigration with Canada, however you should check with the Canadian consultae in Chicago. canada has very liberal immigration laws working in your favor.

IRS debts in general are not dischargeable ("covered") in bankruptcy proceedings. However, in certain instances they can be dischargeable. I would need more information regarding these debts to determine whether they are dischargeable.

IRS debts should not affect your immigration, however i would check with the Canadaian consulate.
