Legal Question in Business Law in Canada
agreements
I am currently involved in a patent application which is costing me a bloody fortune. My lawyer who presented the patent to the US changed the patent without my consent. In a last meeting with the law firm they verbally agreed to continue with the process pro bono because I had already spent a lot of money. Now they are sending me a huge bill. How binding is a verbal agreement? Thanks.

Re: agreements
Verbal agreements are usually valid provided they can be proven; a very difficul task at best.
This should be a good reminder to document all your verbal agreements in writing.
This being said, the law may vary from Province to Province, therefore you should validate this with a Lawyer in your Province.
