Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Canada
Clarifying my cancelation of mexican passport
I guess I worded my question wrong. I am a Mexican Citizen with Mexican Passport. Lived in USA for over 20 yrs with Permanet Residency status. I then moved to Canada, obtained my Permanent Residency here, in Canada, gave up all previleges in USA. I have a son in USA which I owe some child support for. I offered to pay in payments, but they ask for a lumpsome. If I don't I was told USA will cancell my passport which is Mexican, & revoke my driver's license which is Canadian. Can they do that?

Re: Clarifying my cancelation of mexican passport
The United States can not cancel a British Columbia drivers' licence; there is no such thing as a "Canadian driver's licence"; all licences are issued by the individual Provinces, each of which has its own rules concerning qualifying for, holding, revoking and cancelling drivers' licences.
British Columbia can refuse to renew a driver's licence (or can suspend it) if the British Columbia Family Maintenance Enforcement Program (FMEP) asks the B.C. government to do so for non-payment of child support, and the FMEP can be requested to do so by the equivalent program in an American State; the U.S. government however has no say because as in B.C. Family Maintenence enforcement is a matter dealt with by the individual States and not by the U.S. Federal Government.
Whether British Columbia will actually refuse to renew your licence or will revoke it is dependent on a number of factors that are too lengthy and complex to go into here.
