Legal Question in Family Law in Canada
abandonment
Ex is diagnosed a sociopath, in jail right now(5th time..starting at age 14 to age 29), abandoned kids for 5 years, no contact/support with them, he owes the kids $42,000.00, and left me with a marriage debt of $15,000.00. He is a bad man, and will bring no good to the kids. He is takingme to court to bring his maintenance oweing to $0.00, I offered a trade , the money for removing parental rights, he refused. I fear for the kids, as well as myself if he should try to contact them, so I want to petition for involuntarily removing parental rights. Do I stand a chance? What proof do I need (I have lots...but will it do any good). The children are wonderful, stadle, academically above their class, they have great support from family. All of this would go to the toilet with the ex in the picture. My son used to throw things at me, hit me, just like daddy did..it took 1 year to reprogram him into the wonderful gentleman he is now. I want my kids to have the best, and although many women claim their ex's to be unfit.....this man invented the definition. Can you help me?

Re: abandonment
In British Columbia there is no such thing as removal of parental rights, voluntary or involuntary, except as might occur in some adoption situations or when the Director apprehends a child and the child is made a permanent ward. The questioner should see a lawyer immediately, as thhis is far too complex a situation for generic advice on a website; also thee are far too few facts given for any sort of specific advice.
