distressed verbal agreement

left ex 2 yrs ago. when leaving under stress and desperation for financial support i agreed with ex that if he gave me money to get on my feet when i received a settlement from an accident i was in i would give him money for a car he bought me when we where together......do i have to pay its been 2 yrs im still waiting for settlement and made the arangement when desperate and broke....he is financially well of we where commonlaw for 4 yrs.
