Legal Question in Family Law in Canada

Divorce in the U.S. if from another country

We both live in the United States but we got married in Canada. We haven't been married for two months and I realized it was a mistake. Can I get a divorce in the U.S. or do I have to go back to Canada?

Jurisdiction rests with the residency of the Plaintiff. If you have continuously resided in the State of Michigan for at least 180 days prior to filing the complaint for divorce, Michigan will have jurisdiction to grant you a divorce. For more info, please contact my office at (248)851-3171.
