Divorce and Debt

if the debt is in my husbands name, am I legally responsible to pay any of it, if 95% of it was aquired while we weren't even common law or married?

In British Columbia you are ot responsible for debt in your husband's name unless you also signed the documents under which the debt arose - one example would be if the debt were charged to a credit card but you had a companion card. If the debt was for somethings used for family purposes, then while the creditor can not require you to pay, the court can readjust family assets giving more to your husband in recognition of his greater debt burden - the requirement that he will have to pay off the family debts.
