family law custody and access to child
how does my son protect his rights, girlfriend left the province of alta moving to bc says she filed for custody and is not going to serve the documents......can my son file an action in alta to supersede the bc action which she says she will leave in a dormant state?

It is quite possible that she just threatened and did not actually file a court action; your son should search the court registry to see if she actually did file. Filing does not accomplish very much if she does not serve the documents; she certainly can't obtain an Order without serving your son. He should consult a lawyer immediately; he can get an inexpensive first consultation by calling the referral service of the Canadian Bar Association, found in the yellow pages under "lawyers".
