Re: Informing a father of a pregnancy.

Not in British Columbia, unless you are in receipt of social assistance benefits, but if you do not, you are open to a lawsuit for denying him his rights of fatherhood and to a lawsuit by the child for denying the child rights to know and receive parental guidance. The father could sue on behalf of the child when he finds out he has a child. You made the child together, and the law says that you have a responsibility to ensure that the child knows both parents. If you act against the interest of the child, it is conceivbalbe that a court could award custody to the father. Unless there has been violence or a real threat of it, such that you fear for your life or fear serious harm, yous should advise the father of the facts.
