Legal Question in Family Law in Canada

Who's liable for the family house?

I signed the family house over to my ex-husband in our separation agreement. He lost the house to the bank. Now Revenue Canada is garnishing monies from me for payment. I'm a single mother who makes less than $20,000 a year. What happened to the legal agreement?

Re: Who's liable for the family house?

You have not given enough information to answer fully; generally however if you owe Revenue Canada they can garnish you. An agreement between you and your ex husband is between you two and usually does not affect the rights that other parties have against either of you. Having said that, I can not provide a "real" answer without more information. If you wish you may telephone me at the number given on our website www.lawvictoria.com and I will discuss the matter at greater length; there will be no fee payable by you.
