Living Together Responsibilities

My son (23) is planning on moving in with his girlfriend (26)and her 2 chidren (4 & 2 1/2) from a previous unmarried relationship. She is planning on going back to school and getting a part-time job. My son is employed as a front desk manager at a downtown hotel. What responsibilities could he incur if this relationship does not work out?

We assume that your son, girlfriend, and her 2 children all live in British Columbia; as noted on our posting, we give advice ONLY for B.C. If they do not, then this advice is NOT accurate. In B.C., if your son acts as if he is a parental figure, he might well be held to be one. This means he quite possibly would be responsible for the children.
