Legal Question in Family Law in Canada

Mortgages after seperation

My mother in law helped us buy a house. Now she says because we split up and Im in the house with the kids that I owe her all the money for the house if I want to keep it.I was only aware of the fact that we owed her the purchasing costs of the house, around 15000 dollars. Now she is saying that I owe her 34000 dollars.I want to keep my house and put it into my name only, and get my husbands name off of it.I also do not think I should be held responsible for all this money she says I owe.She had payed the mortgage for the last year as my husband was not working, however I was under the impression that all the work he had done on her house for the past year was in return for the mortgage payment.I have talked to other people who were around and they were under the same impression. What are my legal rights regarding me being able to keep my home for myself and the children and getting the mortgage in my name only? Also what are my legal rights surrounding the money my mother in law feels I owe her?
