Legal Question in Family Law in Canada

Parental Rights and Custody

A girl wishes to get pregnant and I opted to be the father for her since she's my friend. She says I wont have to do anything or be around but I want to know if there is some way I can get it in writing that even if I am biologically related I have no attatchment or legal obligation to the child. Is that possible? Im very good at covering most loopholes and writing my own agreements so can I write up something and have her sign it and will it hold up in court?

Re: Parental Rights and Custody

In British Columbia, you may "get it in writing" but it is not enforceable. The right to know and be supported by a father is the child's right and not that of the mother and she can not bargain it away. Likewise, the obligation to support a child is the father's and the mother can not bargain it away.
